Husband's Method of Removing Splinter:
Assemble nitrous spray, hypodermic needle filled with sterile water, sterile surgical tweezers and gauze. Grab toddler with one splinter in hand. Have toddler sit on toilet and spray hand with freezing cold nitrous spray. Yell at wife to find escaped toddler and bring him back to the bathroom and restrain him while husband pokes gently at splinter with tweezers. Think happy thoughts while toddler's screams shatter eardrums. Finally remove splinter, flush wound with fluid from hypodermic needle, dress wound, and then treat toddler with candy.
Elapsed time= 15 minutes
Mother's Method of Removing Splinters:
Move Revlon tweezers back and forth over flame from cigarette lighter to sterilize. Turn on toddler's favorite cartoon, grab toddler and put in basket hold (learned from working in pysch hospital), tweeze and stab 5 splinters with tweezers and acrylic fingernails, think happy thoughts while toddler's screams shatter eardrums. Remove all 5 splinters, stick lollypop in toddler's mouth and wash hands in bathroom sink with soap and water. Release toddler.

Care and feeding of monkeys-Our trip to S.F.
I like to leave these instructions on my blog so I can look back in later years and reflect on how much easier it is to leave town than when I had 3 little monkeys.
Kristin is getting here at 2:30p and hopefully Bekah and Jakey will be napping but Bekah loves to hang out with Sarah so she may still be awake and downstairs.Thank you soo much Kristin you are awesome, I owe you one! Bekah can snack and play. There are snacks in cupboard above toaster and fruit in fruit bowl and fridge. Diapers and wipes are in cabinet closest to the door of downstairs bathroom.
Jake wakes up around 3:30-4p and he usually has some cheerios (in snack cupboard) and a warm 4 oz. milk bottle. Bottles and nipples are in 3rd cabinet left of fridge and sippy cups are in cabinet left of that.
My friend Lucy will be dropping off Mike and his carseat off around 4:45p/5p. Mike will just want to chill out in front of the t.v. I usually start feeding Jake with some finger foods at 5p and then make dinner for the other 2. I just got convenience foods and of course Emily is welcome to join them and you too of course. Bekah will eat anything but Mike will only eat nuggets, mac and cheese and cheese quesadillas and any kind of fruit, they will love that watermelon and grapes. Jake doesn't really eat jar food anymore so I just give him some grated cheese, crackers, banana, canned beans, etc. I do spoon feed him yogurt but you can just let him feed himself he loves it. He also eats everything Bekah and Mike do just diced up.
Jake gets another 4oz bottle at 6:30p and then another 4oz after bathtime to top him off. They take a bath at 7p but Sarah will be here by then!

If Jake does wake up in the middle of the night (he has been way better lately) you can give him a big 6oz bottle but change his diaper because he will soak everything. If he sleeps through he will wake up at 5a for a bottle and diaper change and that's pretty much when stuff gets started around here so go to bed early. Because if Jake does go back to sleep Bekah usually gets up and then wakes Jake back up. You are welcome to drag them into bed with you but Jake will crawl off so you have to lay on him. Mike snoozes until 7:30a or later.
At 7:30a I gather all of their clothes and bring downstairs. I change Jake's diaper before bfast and their clothes after bfast. You know what goes on from there. My dad and Cherie will be here at 11a

If he woke up before 11a he can go down about 1/1:30p with Bekah but if he woke up after 11a he won't down again until 2/2:30p. If he wakes up in the morning before 7a he goes down for morning nap between 8:45a-9:15 and if by a miracle he wakes up after 7a he won't go down until 9:30/9:45a.
They eat lunch about noon and you can read above in Kristin's section on what foods they all eat but I think you already know. At naptime Jake gets a 6oz warm milk bottle which is 45 seconds in the microwave. I take all 3 upstairs for storytime, teeth brushing before nap but after storytime Mike does t.v. and snacks in rec room downstairs while Bekah and Jake stay upstairs and sleep (hopefully). NO BINKIES DOWNSTAIRS. That is the new house rule and they will try to sneak them downstairs in their pockets or they will throw over the railing, run downstairs grab 'em, pop 'em in their mouths and run and hide.

After nap I make Mike turn off the t.v. and play outside but I set the timer first to warn him that the t.v. will be turned off soon. I set the timer before bathtime too to warn him that we are going upstairs for bath (and I do this before nap and pretty much anything else so he won't blow out). Bathtime is 6:45/7p and we bathe all 3 at once which I am sure Cherie is used to. But we put Jake in first and out first because he will crawl in on his own and drown himself. 2 people should really diaper and dress Jake because he is strong and wiggly and since he is all torso and short on limbs it's hard to hold him down. Mike's p.j.s are in 2nd to bottom drawer nad Jake's are in bottom drawer and Bekah's are in her bottom drawer. Mike wears a pull-up at night and they are in the diaper hanging bag on the end of Jake's crib and they have a cowboy on them. Jake and BEkah wear the same size diaper. After bath is teeth brushing and story time and Jake gets another 4-6oz bottle and stays in his crib during storytime even though he will throw stuff at you and act all cute trying to get you to take him out and play with him.
Storytime is in Jake and Mike's room and then Bekah gets tucked into her own bed and her door gets locked because she will run into her brothers' room and torture them. Do not lock the boys' door because Mike might need to use the potty.
Read above in Sarah's section for nighttime and morning. At bfast I put Jake in his highchair and sprinkle cheerios on his tray and he eats that while i am making coffee adn getting bfast for other 2. They can have waffles (in freezer)or cereal but they will want waffles. Jake can eat waffles too but he likes yogurt better. I have ground starbucks coffee in generic coffee can in fridge.
Our old sitter Katie will be stopping by at noon to hang with the kids until we get home they are going to freak when they see her! I will take Mike to dad's game when we get home, at Ca. High right? thanks soooo much, I can't wait to eat and sleep this weekend.

Positivity
So I am in a much better mood now. Erik woke up from his nap, we fed everyone, put Jake and Bekah down for a nap and then Mike and I made Lemon bars. After I put those in the oven I took Mike to the gym with me since he doesn't nap and he is now playing in the day care while I worked out on the treadmill and am now blogging.
So yes it's true I took Mike for his kidney test and it took 4 of us to hold him down while they inserted the catheter but it was worth it, the test is negative! He was diagnosed with kidney reflux when I was 20 weeks pregnant with him and I was actually resigned that he was going to have the surgery, and fairly soon if he hadn't outgrown it. But he did and we are ecstatic.
So the final turn-out for Jake's birthday was about 75 people. It was a lot of fun and some friends stuck around to help us drain the keg. We never did finish the whole thing but we tried our best. The weather cooperated, my kids were well-behaved and there was more than enough food. I also have recently lost some weight so I didn't look too chubby.
Wednesday was Erik's 38th birthday and the Grimmers and Jan came over to celebrate. Haley was very helpful with making me dinner, it was a glimpse of my future. Chris and Merrill are thinking of putting their house on the market and will hopefully move to San Ramon.
Speaking of moving, I checked my voicemail last night and their was a message from Johanna W. saying they were moving back to California. I thought maybe I had taken too much Darvocet, which I need to survive the aftermath of a recent root canal, and was hallucinating. But I checked the voicemail again and sure enough they are to be looking for a house in Brentwood! I have no idea what spurred this but I am very excited. The more kids I have the more I miss Johanna.
So I am going to sign off and go get Mikey G.from ClubKid. My friend J. B. had a baby boy and I am bringing her dinner tonight. I am making falafels, with all the fixings, couscous, steamed carrots, rice pudding and lemon bars. Of course I will just make extra for us and I am getting hungry right now.
Being tortured
Ok so I wanted to label that photo Jake's first bday but Jake jostled my elbow and the post ended up being published. I have no idea what button I pushed that made it happen but there you go. I can't really blog right now because Erik is napping and the kids are torturing me. It's only 10a and Jake has already napped because he is sick and mean as snake right now. Bekah is still in her jammies and I need to do laundry so she has something to wear. Mike does not want to wear the shirt I put on him because it's "stupid". Then get a job and buy your own clothes! So he is wearing a "stupid" shirt and his shark p.j. bottoms because I don't feel like fighting him. He is also throwing a fit because he wants to wake up Erik and I won't let him. I had a root canal on Friday, today is Sunday, and I am also as mean as a snake. Grrrr or hiss, whatever.
I will post something more positive later for example the fact that Mike outgrew his kidney reflux (yay!), I lost 9 lbs., Jake's bday was a blast, and Jo and Vince are moving back to California!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
